One
of the oldest chapters in
the country, the Greater
Rochester Area Branch of American Association of University Women
dates back to 1897, a time when women were not allowed to vote, and
only a few had been given the opportunity to pursue a college degree. The
organization is located in a beautiful East Avenue mansion once
owned by Elizabeth and Erikson Perkins. The 12-room modified English Tudor had been a wedding gift presented to the couple by Mrs.
Perkins's parents in 1906. The house is a sophisticated venue
for rehearsal dinners, showers, small weddings, milestone birthdays
and anniversaries as well as any type of elegant party. It
holds 100 with grazing or buffet stations stations or 60-70 for a
sit-down dinner. Events are held inside in the downstairs of the home
utilizing main hall, living room, dinner room with patio, solarium and
library. There is ample lighted parking behind the building.
